Cappercaillie award
18/05/2019
this image of a male Capercaillie was awarded the Ray Bramwell selectors award in the East Anglian Photographic Association 2019 exhibition .
These birds are now on the Red list and need every bit of help they can get. As photographers our images help to get this little known bird in front of the public and hopefully raise awareness of their plight.
A little history if I may. In the late 1700’s the Capercaillie was extinct in the UK from hunting and loss of habitat, in the early 1800’s birds were reintroduced from Sweden and by the early 1970’s there were 20,000 birds in the UK. Today that figure is down to just over a thousand birds, loss of habitat being the main cause.
